Candidate
brochures to be mailed to board offices
early April
School
board election materials to be posted March 26
Before school board elections, the ASBA prepares materials to support
local board efforts to attract trustee candidates and to raise the profile
of
school board elections. The 2007 kit – which includes a brochure
titled
Become a School Trustee and a handbook outlining strategies for
promoting the 2007 election – will be mailed to school board offices
in early April. Some materials will be posted on the ASBA website on March
26 at www.asba.ab.ca
for those who want to get started earlier. The online materials will include
newsletter articles, speeches for service clubs and school councils and
a letter to the editor, which school boards can adapt for local use.
School
boards are asked to create a link to the School Board Election Info site,
where potential candidates can read about the role of the school trustee,
the role of the school board, and the trustee code.

Board
of Directors finalizes 2007- 2010 strategic plan
The ASBA Board of Directors identified five
key results in the 2007-2010 strategic plan which will focus
the work of the ASBA for the coming three years:
|
•
| ASBA members will accept the proposed governance
model that emerges from the governance review.
|
•
| The ASBA will give school boards resources
to help them raise public awareness of and support for the role
of trustees and school boards.
|
•
| The ASBA will address three advocacy areas:
high school completion, transportation and infrastructure.
|
•
| School boards will come to a shared understanding
about how choice is and might be delivered in Alberta. |
•
| School boards will understand their responsibilities
with regard to finances.
|
Also on the strategic
planning front, the second quarter report detailing progress on
