School boards association president Heather Welwood available for comment after budget release Feb. 9
Release date: February 8, 2010
Alberta School Boards Association President Heather Welwood hopes a joint campaign with the Alberta Teachers’ Association and the Alberta School Councils’ Association calling for investment in public education adds up to more money for schools in the coming budget.
“Last fall we were warned of the potential for a pretty hard hit to public education – somewhere near the $300 million mark,” said Welwood. “Since then, we know Minister of Education Dave Hancock has been in there pitching for public education funding. And 11,200 Albertans called for investment in education through the education partners’ Stop the Cuts campaign. On the eve of this budget I’d say school boards’ mood is hopeful.”
Welwood will be available for media questions in the Rotunda at the Alberta Legislature immediately following the budget speech at 3 p.m. on February 9, 2010.
