Alberta school boards celebrate first-year teachers and community partners at 2022 awards celebration
Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) school board members gathered to recognize outstanding first-year teachers, community partners that show commitment to improving education for Alberta students, and school boards who have made notable contributions to public education in Alberta through engagement, innovation and excellence.
November 20, 2022, Edmonton, AB — Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) members, Alberta’s locally-elected public, catholic and francophone school boards, gathered on November 20, 2022, to celebrate award recipients with Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, AOE B.Sc., LLD (hon) Lieutenant Governor of Alberta in attendance to share remarks.
In collaboration with the office of the Lieutenant Governor, the launch of ASBA’s Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Student Awards was announced. These awards are intended to recognize Alberta students in different grade levels who have shown tremendous growth in their academic achievements.
The awards celebration included recognition of outstanding first-year teachers, community partners that show commitment to improving education for Alberta students, and school boards who have made notable contributions to public education in Alberta through engagement, innovation and excellence.
2022 award recipients
Edwin Parr Teacher Award
- Zone 1 – Neve Aspeslet from Peace River School Division.
- Zone 2/3 – Aimee Allers from Grande Yellowhead Public School Division.
- Zone 2/3 – Alexandra Shapka from Lakeland Catholic School Division.
- Zone 4 – Tosha Sim from Red Deer Public School Division.
- Zone 5 – Belinda Ziehl from Christ the Redeemer Catholic School Division.
- Zone 6 – Sophia Larney from Holy Spirit Catholic Schools.
Friends of Education Award
- Zone 1 – Steve McLeod, Freson Brothers, nominated by High Prairie School Division.
- Zone 2/3 – Action for Healthy Communities, nominated by Lakeland Catholic School Division.
- Zone 2/3 – Shell Canada, nominated by Elk Island Public Schools.
- Zone 4 – The Mustard Seed Red Deer, nominated by Chinook’s Edge School Division.
- Zone 5 – Calgary Black Chambers, nominated by Calgary Catholic School District.
Community Engagement Award
- Grande Yellowhead Public School Division for the “Enrolment Imbalance in Hinton Community Engagement” initiative.
School Board Innovation Award
- Battle River School Division for the “Equity in Action” initiative.
