Putting Data to Work: Defining Canada’s French Language Teacher Shortage

ASBA is pleased to support the CSBA’s Putting Data to Work initiative, which aims to define the French as a Second Language (FSL) Teacher Shortage in Canada. The CSBA and the FNCSF, in collaboration with the CASSA, the RNDGE and the CLE, have teamed up to collaborate and develop a sustainable and accessible pan-Canadian data infrastructure to collect and house accurate, standardized data that can be used to address the Francophone and FSL teacher shortage and enhance their recruitment, mobility and retention.

Benefits for school boards:

  • Aid in teacher recruitment, immigration, certification and mobility;
  • Opportunity for benchmarking and comparative analysis of data;
  • Access to federal funding and programming; and,
  • The development of a pool of qualified teachers who understand the needs of Francophone and second language learners.
