Student recipients of Alberta School Boards Association’s Indigenous student award receive scholarship through sponsorship by Keyera
April 13, 2023, Edmonton, AB — Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) is pleased to announce Keyera as a five-year sponsor of ASBA’s 2022-2026 Honouring Spirit: Indigenous Student awards. As part of this sponsorship, Keyera will be providing a one-time $2,500 scholarship to each student recipient to acknowledge their achievements and support their educational journeys.
These awards are presented to First Nations, Métis and Inuit students in Kindergarten to Grade 12 who model strength and commitment in the pursuit of their personal education path while celebrating their culture. In total, 12 awards are distributed each year.
“ASBA has had the honour of presenting this award to exceptional students from across Alberta who have shown commitment to their education, exemplary leadership and devotion to their cultural path,” said Marilyn Dennis, President of ASBA. “This sponsorship from Keyera will provide additional recognition for these student leaders who serve as a great model of inspiration for others.”
Through its social investment program Keyera Connects, Keyera supports causes that strengthen the environment, advance Indigenous reconciliation and build community resiliency. The program’s Indigenous Reconciliation pillar supports Keyera’s approach to actively listen, seek to understand and advance reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, communities and organizations.
“The Honouring Spirit Award recipients demonstrate incredible potential as leaders of tomorrow,” said Dean Setoguchi, President & CEO, Keyera. “Each of them has the opportunity to shape diverse industries, with fresh ideas and perspectives. We are proud to support them along their educational journeys.”
ASBA launched these awards in 2018 to celebrate the unique qualities of Indigenous students in Alberta who inspire their peers, teachers, education leaders and community members. The 2023 award ceremony will take place on April 15 at Government House in Edmonton, Alberta.
