School board trustees are elected during municipal elections, which take place every four years in Alberta. Eligible voters in a school division can vote for trustees who will represent them on the school board. The number of trustees elected depends on the size and needs of the school division. Any eligible voter who resides in a school division can vote for school board trustees during municipal elections. To be eligible, you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, and a resident of the local area.
