Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-racism Strategic Plan from Edmonton Catholic School Division
The multi-phased development of Edmonton Catholic Schools Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Antiracism Strategic Plan included hearing from diverse voices across multiple stakeholder and advisory groups, parents and guardians who identified as belonging to equity seeking groups. The initiative comprised a comprehensive survey and sought robust input from school councils.

“Vertical Farm Initiative” from Foothills School Division
This innovative community project at Oilfield High School exposed students to growing techniques and provides hands-on experience in how to become food producers within their community. The initiative brings together the entire community, including businesses to focus on the environment and sustainable growing methods in rural communities.

Sean Sargent and the Sargent Family Foundation, Zone 1: Nominated by Grande Prairie Public School Division
An active supporter of Grande Prairie school division since the early 1990s, Sean and the Sargent Family Foundation have provided presentations to students through the Junior Achievement program, contributed through the Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie program and provided playground fundraising support. Sean Sargent also lead the Rotary Greena-thon teaching students in Grades 5 and 6 about community services.
The Wim and Nancy Pauw Foundation, Zone 5: Nominated by Canadian Rockies School Division
The Wim and Nancy Pauw Foundation generously donated $734,000 to the Canadian Rockies Public Schools for the 2022/23 school year - which marks their tenth year of support. Their generous contributions continue to have a significant impact on mental health wrap-around services and outdoor experiential learning programs for every student in the division.

School Resource Officers (SROs) worked collaboratively with stakeholders in Wolf Creek School Division schools to provide a positive learning environment around social issues and citizenship and resolve issues and concerns in a safe and peaceful manner. 2023 Recipients: Edwin Parr Teacher Award
Zone 1Angela Sheppard, Grande Prairie Catholic School Division Angela completed her first year of teaching at St. Catherine Catholic School where she taught Kindergarten. Angela skillfully utilized a contemporary and comprehensive set of planning, instruction and assessment practices to cater to the unique learning requirements of each student in her class. |
Zone 2/3Krysta Florence, Edmonton Public School Division Krysta completed her first year of teaching at Rutherford School where she taught Grade 1 and French as a Second Language to both Grade 1 and Grade 4 students. Her empathy, attention to detail and compassion was evident in her daily interactions with students, staff and families, and how she made everyone around her feel seen, heard and valued. |
Zone 2/3Elsa MacIsaac, Greater St. Albert Catholic School Division Elsa completed her first year of teaching at Morinville Community High School where she taught Social Studies 10-1 and the Respectful Inclusive Supported Education program (RISE). She planned unique and diverse lesson plants to fit the needs of each of her students, including those with complex needs. |
Zone 4Amy Severston, Chinook’s Edge School Division Amy completed her first year of teaching at Bowden Grandview School where she taught Grade 5 math, science and social studies; Grade 7 science, physical education, advisory and CTF; and, Grade 8 advisory. She was the recipient of Chinook’s Edge School Board’s Flourishing Innovations grant for her work with her Grade 7 students to create a sustainable farmer’s market. |
Zone 5Alicia Grenier, Calgary Catholic School Division Alicia completed her first-year of teaching at St. Timothy Junior/Senior High School where she taught high school English and Social Studies. She worked tirelessly in a complex classroom that included students with severe cognitive and medical complexities, Ukrainian refugees and diverse learners to create an inclusive environment that centred on student success. |
Zone 6Katie Albers, Medicine Hat Public School Division Katie completed her first year of teaching at Southview Elementary, where she taught Grade 4/5. She built a wonderful rapport with all her students and encouraged student learning through critical thinking, hands-on learning, technology and collaboration. |
